For nurses

Nursing judgment is one of the most under-represented forms of clinical expertise in AI training data. Frontier labs are correcting for that, and practicing nurses are being paid to help.

Most of the clinical training data language models see was written by physicians for physicians. Nursing judgment, which shapes almost every clinical encounter in practice, is under-represented. Frontier AI labs are actively working to correct that, and practicing nurses are among the fastest-growing expert-contributor cohorts for medical AI programs.

The work is remote, asynchronous, and paid on Western clinical scales in USD. If you are a registered nurse with recent clinical experience, especially in emergency, ICU, oncology, paediatric, psychiatric, or community-nursing settings, there is a market for exactly your training right now.

What the work looks like

  • Response evaluation. You review model outputs on nursing-oriented prompts: patient triage, medication administration checks, care planning, discharge instructions, patient education. You score them against what a working nurse would produce.
  • Question authoring. You write realistic nursing scenarios at the level of a competency exam or a shift-handover note.
  • Safety flagging. You mark any generated content that would be unsafe if followed by a patient or a non-clinical caregiver.
  • Adversarial testing. You construct prompts where the model is likely to give plausible-sounding advice that misses a specific clinical safeguard.

The work is asynchronous. Two to four hour blocks. Structured deliverables. No clinical shifts. No patient contact.

What labs actually look for

Active nursing licensure. Recent clinical practice in a specific area. Written English at a professional standard, at the level of a nursing chart note or a peer-reviewed nursing article.

They do not look for AI experience.

Where the pay lands

Rates are in USD. For nurses in emerging markets, this is often significantly above local salary on a per-hour basis. For nurses in higher-cost markets, it compares against agency rates.
